Possibly a portrait of the Belgian Painter Jean Baptist De Weert (1829 - 1884).
The painting of the Gummarus Church is attributed to De Weert. He was the best student (1852) of Melchior Gommar Tieleman (1784 - 1864), another painter based in Lier. The man in typical workwear holds a painter's brush. His tubes are visible on the table.
The large painting in the background depicts the Gummarus Church in Lier. An interesting and rather unusual CDV portrait.
No photographer's imprint. Possibly photographed by Charles Stalpaert (1824 - 1906) a well known photographer based in Lier.
