Unknown: centenaire Pierre Larmoyeux, Waterloo veteran, Belgium ca. 1895

Image of Unknown: centenaire Pierre Larmoyeux, Waterloo veteran, Belgium ca. 1895

A rare albumen portrait on a cabinet card of a Napoleonic veteran. Pierre Larmoyeux's sitting in a chic armchair, probably outside, with a warm smile on his face. In his left hand, Pierre holds a walking stick. An umbrella rests against the armchair. The badge of honor on his vest is hard to recognize.

Pierre Joseph Larmoyeux was born in Ransart on March 5, 1795.
On November 8, 1820, he married Marie Catherine Gérard (born 1793) in Ransart.
This former Napoleonic soldier and nail salesman was rather eccentric. The very old man regularly made trips to Charleroi and told everyone who would listen that he was going to collect his documents to get married there.

He had also ordered his coffin two years earlier, where he regularly inspected it. Subsequently, the former veteran of the French Empire had called upon 24 torchbearers to accompany him honorably upon his death. However, he had to regularly arrange for replacements, as several of the bearers died earlier.

Pierre, who had fought at the Battle of Waterloo, died in Ransart on December 23, 1895.
