Unknown: calotype of a Pradier statuette, ca. 1850
A very delicate and beautiful salt print of a statue by James Pradier (1790-1852) titled "La pêcheuse napolitaine".
This photo is printed from a paper negative which gives a rather soft sharpness. The paper is very thin and therefore also gives a readable mirror image on the back.
The tint of the photo is more blue-gray than red-brown which is more common for a salt print. The whole gives a beautifully fragile impression.
Lemaire's stereo daguerreotypes, published by Mr. S. Marchi, are the more common photographic reproductions of Pradier's work.
