Robert Sennecke: Police Championships, Germany ca. 1929
Image of "Die Deutsche Polizeimeisterschaften" photographed by Robert Sennecke (1885 - 1940). He was a German Olympic marathon runner and press photographer.
Sennecke had already worked as a journalistic photographer before the First World War and served as a war correspondent after 1914. He was active, among other things, with the German military advisors in the Ottoman Empire, where he nominally belonged to the Turkish army and also wore their uniform.
After the end of the war, Sennecke became one of the most famous press photographers of his time. With the photos from his own photo agency, Internationaler Illustrations-Verlag, which became one of the most renowned companies in the industry, he supplied both the German press and foreign news agencies with current photo material of events and people of the day. Sennecke employed several well-known press photographers; his own specialty was sports photography, to which he devoted particular attention.
This image is an interesting mix between the history of press photography and interwar esthetics.
Gelatine silver print with press information on the verso. Traces of use, one small tear on the right.
