Maxime du Camp: a letter in his hand about his portrait photograph, 1880.
A letter in the hand of Maxime du Camp, 4 Mars 1880.
Fascinating historical document: He writes about a portrait photograph of him and lies about the existence of it: “Ma photographie n’a jamais été faite...”.
The writer was a pioneer in photographic history. In 1880 he was was elected a member of the Académie française. Because of this occasion his portrait was asked in a previous letter.
In this letter he is answering (wrongly!) that his portrait doesn't exist. There was one made by Nadar.
A rare topic and unique historical document!
