Eugène Disdéri: armor collection of Napoléon III, ca. 1859
The famous French photographer Eugène Disdéri started in 1856 with a series about the armor collection of Emperor Napoléon III. Then exhibited in the Salle des Preuses of the Château de Pierrefonds and now at the Musée des Invalides in Paris. This military still life is part of this series made by Disderi.
It's interesting to see the opulent presentation of antique swords against a rather primitive photographic backdrop.
Unmounted large albumen print with good tonality. Some traces of use and age at the uneven edges.
ca. 29,4 x 21,5 cm
