Edmond Le Cadre: hand colored female nude, France ca. 1870

Image of Edmond Le Cadre: hand colored female nude, France ca. 1870

A female nude as documentation for artists. Naturally, there was also an audience for these photos, one that appreciated their erotic qualities. The link to the arts is then more of an excuse for buying a nude.
This albumen print is beautifully colored. The details, such as the slippers, demonstrate the artist's skill. The print is signed E L in red in the lower right corner. Lecadre [sic.] had been active in Paris since 1870. His name and address are on the original mount below the photo. Mounted on a stiff cardboard with red border.
Edmond worked together with Robert J. Bingham, J. Cordin and from 1885 with his own son, Le Cadre Junior.

albumen print ca. 27,2 x 21 cm
