Disdéri: Marie Sax in L'Africaine, ca. 1865
A beautifully tinted carte de visite portrait of the Belgian soprano Marie Constance Sasse (1834-1907).
At the onset of her career she changed her name to Sax, then to Saxe when the instrument maker Adolphe sued her; when he sued again, she reverted to Sasse and was later known as Sass. (info: Paul Frecker)
Here she wears an 'Oriental' dress as Sélika in L'Africaine (1865).
Photographer's address at the back, named 'Marie Sax' in pencil.
CdV in good condition.
