Arcangelo: painting a clock face, Nemours France ca. 1865
A very unusual CDV. Two workers are painting Roman numerals on the clock face of a large clock, possibly intended for a church tower. The two men pose outdoors in their white work clothes and wear hats.
Photographed by Arcangelo in Nemours. It's a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France.
19th-century occupational photographs are rather uncommon in Europe. This theme was more common in the US. This example has the characteristics of a primitive reportage photo. A rare one!
Albumen print in good condition with only small traces of use and age. The small dots at the top of the clock face are in the negative.
CDV ca. 10,4 x 6,3 cm
