A cdv of an older man wearing his "médaille de Saint Hélène". The Saint Helena Medal was the first French campaign medal. It was established in 1857 by a decree of emperor Napoleon III to recognize participation in the campaigns led by emperor Napoleon I.
This tinted albumen photograph is possibly a vintage copy image of the original daguerreotype or ambrotype portrait. The man his retouched hair is an interesting detail. No photographer's imprint.
