Anonymous: female nude posing like Phryné, ca. 1865
This albumen print is housed in an early glass frame, resealed later. The naked woman is posing outside. Probably a painters study. She holds her hand before her face, just like Phryné did in the painting "Phryne avant l'Areopagus" by Jean-Léon Gérôme.
Also Félix Nadar made a very similar portrait in 1861 as a study for this painter. (We added a rare signed portrait of Gérôme in another lot of this online exhibition).
The pose in this photograph is very fragile.
Exhibition: This photograph was lend for the exhibition "Schaamte/Honte/Shame at the Dr. Guislain Museum, Ghent 2016. (See last picture as reference for this exhibition, copyright Dr. Guislain museum)
