Adrien Tournachon (dit Nadar Jeune): "Taureau", bull with his owner, ca. 1856
This salt print was probably made at the Exposition Agricole of 1856 by Adrien Alban Tournachon (1825-1903).
Adrien was the younger brother of Félix Tournachon, better known as Nadar. From 1855 he specialized in photographing animals. Princess Mathilde had commissioned him to photograph the award-winning animals of the contests held in Paris. Incredibly precise shots of farm animals and their keepers or owners were the result. Of the 120 images, 50 were used for Emile Baudement's work, "Les Races bovines au Concours universelle agricole de Paris en 1856: Études zootechniques", published in 1861.
Signature stamp in the lower left corner of the print "Nadar J.ne" [Jeune]. Numbered in the collodion glass negative. Some small light spots on the edges where there is no silver nitrate.
