post mortem daguerreotype of a man with ear and nose plugs
A fascinating and rare closeup postmortem daguerreotype. The pose is unusual and the plugs in his ear and nose are very rare details. Some nice hand coloring on the cheeks.
The full case is decorated with two love birds (Hannavy, 2005). It shows wear and is taped with a new spine.
6th plate US daguerreotype
Buff marks on the plate, some mold spiders. The daguerreotype is resealed in 2017.
The case design is described in John Hannavy: Case Histories, The Presentation of the Victorian Photographic Portrait 1840-1875, 2005. (p. 64)
